HOW THE BENEFIT WORKS

A powerful education benefit — with rules worth understanding.

01

Choose an approved school

Start with a Missouri institution on the Guard's published eligible-school list.

02

Use eligible assistance first

Current FY26 instructions require eligible Army members to apply for Federal Tuition Assistance and require FAFSA before State TA.

03

State TA helps cover tuition

State TA pays 50–100% of the University of Missouri-Columbia resident credit-hour rate, subject to eligibility and available funding.

04

Tuition & fee waiver may finish the pathway

The current instructions describe the SB912 tuition-and-fee waiver as the last bill payer after other eligible education assistance is exhausted. The school determines waiver eligibility.

Why people call it the “100% tuition” benefit:

The Guard education package can create a pathway to having eligible tuition covered at participating schools, but it is not accurate to say State TA by itself automatically pays every dollar at every school. Eligibility, funding, other aid, the school's waiver determination, and program rules all matter.
